I wonder if this has anything to do with Toshiba bowing out of the next-gen disk fight?

Microsoft is in talks with Sony about the possibility of adding Blu-ray technology to Xbox 360, reports the Financial Times.

Speaking at a media dinner, Sony Electronics US president Stan Glasgow said the company is in talks with both Microsoft and Apple to add Blu-ray drives to their hardware....

Interesting

I hope this deal goes through. Blu-Ray appears to be the future format, and including a 360 that supports it will only boost support for it. Depending on the price range, I might be willing to purchase it, since the PS3 sucks.

Really? Did you think of that on your own?

Everyone was bashing Sony for putting Blu Ray in, but in the end it seemed to be the right decision. And yea, it would be stupid for Microsoft not to put Blu Ray in the 360 (most likely as a add-on drive, but who knows). For the non-intense gamer, the fact that the PS3 also features HD movies along with games might be enough to push him over the edge.

I'm speaking here as a sad HD DVD owner, too. icon_sad.gif

Microsoft was supporting HD DVD previously.

microsoft will eventually get blu-ray, i have no doubt.

if it's going to be pushed as the new main format for home entertainment, there won't be a choice.

If Microsoft can't strike a deal with Sony, they've lost the console war. For the sole fact that if the PS3 is to be the only console with a High Definition Format, then that will give them a major advantage over the 360, and they will eventually defeat the 360 in the console war.

It would be disapointing if Sony did grant a license. Poof there goes PS3's biggest advantage. but unfortunately it's more likey it will happen you can't stop the inevitable. imagine how much M$ could offer Sony for a Licence it could be Billions and they could certainly afford it.

Oh well even if future 360s do incorporate BR drives PS3's other design benefeits should still keep it superior. In the way of gaming what point is having a blue ray drive with all that extra storage space on the disc if the console dosn't have superior enough processor, graphics etc to harness the extra potential.

Isn't that is causing all the problems in PS3?? Like isn't that why game developers don't like making games on PS3 is b/c of blu-ray technology and their no familiar with it??
