What the hell happened that sim games became so popular?
History time!
It all started with precursors like Sim City, Sim Ant, Sim Town, Sim Tower (<3!!!!!) in the early 90s under the Maxis brand. In 1999, computer gaming was revolutionized with the creation of The Sims, the most successful game franchise in the history of PC gaming. EA Games realized the potential and bought out Maxis, but kept the name, since when you think "sim" you think "Maxis." Since then, EA/Maxis' sim line has grown exponentially in revenue, units sold, and success.
SimTower was the bomb.
Yeah, i know all that - ive been gaming for most of it. The whole genre of simulations aswell as the franchise "Sim.." is obviously popular and money-hoovering into the new millennium and whatnot...
But why? Past SimCity ive found them to be tedious as fuck. Maybe im just getting old, or the whole idea is just stale and used-over...maybe both. Whatever the case, it doesnt make sense to me to "Sim" somebody's life, go to a job, wash the dishes, have kids, clean the floor, sleep...etc in a game, when you do all that shit in real life

.
Whats wrong with blowing demons to pieces like in the good old days?
