Full Version: Xbox 360?

So I was thinking of buying a new console. I dont want to break out the money for the PS3 and the Wii's ok but there arent a lot of games that interest me. So I was thinking of getting an Xbox 360 sometime. But Im wondering whether to get the core or premium? I think the big difference is the 20 GB hard drive. I know you need it to play Xbox games and for Live stuff. But Im not a "hardcore" gamer. Id just buy this to play once in awhile alone or with friends. So I could live without Live and its content. And I have a few Xbox games Id like to play, but I dont think theyre worth the extra $100. So my question is if I get the Core, can I save my progress on 360 games? Id normally think "of course, otherwise no one would buy the Core" but my friend said he was having issues with saving 360 games on his core, so Im just checking. And Im not too into technology, so a brief description of the capabilities of the hard drive and the other extras of the premium would be helpful. Thanks.

Go for the premium, I don't have enough time to write something long right now, but if someone doesn't post the reasons, I'll do it later.

i'm tempted to buy a 360 because i want to eventually buy the new harmonix game, "rockband."

hearing about the system failures is making me nervous because the systems are expensive. my brother's 360 just crapped out for the 3rd time.

tetsuo
Yeah, they extended the warranty and expect to spend $1 billion fixing the problems.
tpoole
Yea, i heard that 1 billion was aprox enough to replace all the consoles that are having issues, as well as a fair share that aren't having any...

After the market close on the East Coast, Microsoft announced that it would take a charge of $1.05 billion to $1.15 billion to cover the costs associated with the Xbox 360's "unacceptable" failure rate; specifically, for extending its warranty period from one year to three, and to reimburse those who paid for repairs after their one-year warranties expired. We spoke with Microsoft entertainment and devices corporate vice president Peter Moore on Friday, and though he was candid throughout, the big question—what exactly is the problem?— remains unanswered. Asked whether the issue is a single problem with the cooling design—as several armchair engineers and numerous gamers believe—Moore stated, "I'm not going to pretend to be technical on this issue, but it's been a multitude of problems. There's no one specific factor we can point to." Yet Moore insists that the problem is not systemic, and he refused to say whether the flaws lie in design or manufacturing.

QUOTE
Firstly, we're making improvements to the console itself that will reduce the occurrence of these issues. But perhaps more importantly, we're implementing an enhanced warranty program to cover the general hardware failures, the ones that are indicated by the three flashing red lights. So we're announcing a specific warranty coverage extension to three years for any console that displays the three-red-light error message. If you get that, we'll repair the console, free of charge, including shipping, for three years from the purchase date. And perhaps equally important, for the people who have already paid us to get it fixed out of warranty, we're going to retroactively reimburse any customer that's had that problem and has paid us to fix their box—from the get-go. So we will be able to take care of everybody that's had this message from launch onwards. And the three-year warranty will be in place immediately, and will cover every box that's been bought or is about to be bought.

It's called warranties. I know it is a difficult concept for you to understand. It's okay.

You loathe them because they're more successful than you will ever be, right?

I've never had a problem with my 360, but I hear about them crapping out all the time.

Neither have I, and I've had mine since launch. This includes 12 hour sessions of Dead Rising where the console is on straight through with no breaks.

The people probably have them on with crappy ventilation, then complain when it freezes. Keep it in a nice open spot, leave room for air to come out, have it in a horizontal position and treat it well. Some of the problems ARE Microsoft's fault, but there's also the idiots who flip the system while it is running then wonder why their disc is scratched.

Bought one recently with 2 year waranty. Or rather, i bought one with 1 year, it died the day after i got it, and i bought a 2 year waranty with my replacement from the store.

Oh and Forza 2 = ORGASM.
MoonDoggie
Mine never had any problems. But I don't have it here in Germany, and havn't played a non-flash video game in six months.

Yours will probably die soon enough then. Virtually all 360s have some design defect that causes them to die.

No. At launch, it may have been 10%-20%, or slightly higher. It's no where near 100%.

Please elaborate on this "design defect".

A Launch Console here, 0 problems so far, 48 gaming hours without any problems, no heat issues.

Premium Advantages: Hard Disk, something finished with Chrome or something like that, Wireless Controller, here the premium comes with a game: Kameo or PGR3

You can't save games if you dont have a Hard Disk or a Memory Unit

If I were you, I would go for the Elite, it comes with a 120GB Hard Disk and a Cool Black Controller, oh and comes with the useless HDMI Port, it is a bit more expensive, but I think is worth it for 100 GB more

my BF he got that one as well. i think there is seldom questions ... ...
so don't worry about that,

ALL OF THEM ARE HORRID.PS3 AND XBOX 360 ARE CRAP.WII HAS NO GOOD GAMES AND THE GRAPHICS ARE HORRIBLE. icon_twisted.gif GAME COMPANIES ARE DEMONS icon_twisted.gif .

1.XBOX 360 IS THE BEST OUT OF THE THREE
2.WII
3.PS3
DrkZ
Wii graphics are not bad, it has better Graphics than the GameCube and Xbox, and GameCube had a lot better Graphics than PS2

Wii games such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess look awesome @ 480p, yeah theres no Gears of War on Wii (nor in PS3) but still, most Wii games look very good

For me, I do use a lot mroe my Wii than my 360, I'm waiting for some grat games on 360 in the near future (Viva Piñata Party Animals, Banjo Kazooie 3, PGR4...)
