Full Version: LOL WoW gold for sex!

A woman posted an ad on Craigslist, offering a certain something for some quick cash in her game of choice, WoW. And she got what she wanted.

Someone at the Pointless Waste of Time forums posted links to the beginning and the end of the tale. The story goes as follows. An anonymous female WoW player, wanting to get her Epic Mount (in more ways than one, haw haw), put up an ad on Craigslist, including her picture and her offer.

The offer? 5,000 gold for the chance to have sex with her. And not surprisingly, someone took her up on it and apparently made her a very satisfied customer. This raises a number of questions.

First of all, is this prostitution? Sure seems like it, although MMO money isn't entirely established as legally worth real money yet, even if people buy and sell it all the time. Which leads to the second question: can she be arrested for this? This one small, funny incident marks an interesting point in the emerging virtual life that will one day be integral to everyone's day-to-day activities.
Was it good for you?

Was it good for you?

We've already got real life crimes motivated by virtual interactions. Will virtual crimes one day be treated like real crimes? Particularly with WoW gold approaching equality with real dollars, won't the theft and manufacturing of it become a problem? As the saying goes, "Time is money," and this woman has shown that. She didn't want to waste tons of time farming gold to get her Epic Mount, so she provided a service to get it
.

Is it a sad state of affairs if a woman is willing to prostitute herself for the ability to have more fun in a videogame, or is it merely a natural progression of the real world bleeding into the virtual one?

Nah, it shouldn't be illegal though, but it is sad.

Wow. She's ugly.

That somehow seems wrong, but meh.

I have never quite understood why prostitution is illegal. Let's think about this for a second. It is illegal in the United States because money is involved. But in the end, it is consensual sex between two individuals. How about marriages motivated by money? Is that prostitution? What about if a guy pays for a date and then it ends in sex? Why is that not prostitution? WHY IS PROSTITUTION ILLEGAL?

About the story, it is about a month old. I suppose you may think differently about it depending on your "morals". But it was simply an exchange that ended in sex. Man gives woman 5000 gold, which takes time and money (subscription fee) to obtain. In exchange, the woman agrees to have consensual sex with him. Why someone thinks that should be illegal is beyond me.

No doubt she would get a quick response considering the type of people that play these games.

It always makes me feel better and my penis feel bigger knowing that I haven't turned out to be those stereotypical AZN kids that are rampant in my school.

Again, I think that there's no real reason that prostitution should be illegal. In fact, there are quite a few reasons why prostitution should be legal. But this is not the thread for that.

Anyway, I love the first line: "Hello I need 5000 world of gold for my epic flying mount. In return you can mount me."

Meh. I'm in so much debt just trying to get my REGULAR NON-FLYING mount! An Epic winged mount costs an arm and a leg. This is kind of going a bit too far, but, I really don't think this counts as prostitution, since this is NOT REAL MONEY.

Are you serious? I had over 1000g when I reached 70 without even trying. Seriously, the first thing I did when I dinged 70 was fly to Shadowmoon and buy a flying mount. You're doing something wrong.

This reminds me of another story I read quite a long time ago. It had to do with people offering their sims for sex on The Sims: Online.

Then there are the myriad prostitutes on Second Life.

I guess it does make good money...
mr.e
hah she plays on my server
SlicedBread
She's actually really not that bad-looking at all.
