Why is it not selling like it was supposed to? Is it game selection? Price of the unit?

Probably the price of the console, and the fact that there are substitutes that are competitively priced and offer pretty much the same features, xcept the blue-ray thing, thats just cool. I also like how light the controller is, the issue is mainly in the price, and how unwilling the consumer is to pay that high a price for a game console.

The price is so high because it's packed with useless and expensive technology that the world isn't ready for. The technology is so new and new technology always comes with a high price.
I'm glad to see the PS3 flop. I called it a while ago.

The fact that you can buy an xb360 for a lot cheaper. And can't you replace the normal DVD player in the xb360, with a HDDVD?

I dont think it is a flop it is just they are soooooooo expensive that it is hardly supprising the Wii is outselling it!

The PS3 could've kept up with the 360 and the Wii if it had been more realistically priced. Even if I had that much money to spare, if I actually sat down and thought about it for a second I'd be very hesitant to spend that much on any game system, regardless of it's other features, since I use my game systems just for playing games, and any other features would be a complete waste in my case.

Sony made 2 mistakes w/ the PS3. 1 was its price and 2 was its release date. If it was released when the xbox 360 was it probably would have did better.

According to NPD Group data, the PS3 sold approximatley 902,000 consoles durring it's first three months in the United States. The Xbox 360 sold 50,000 fewer consoles durring it's first three months on the market in the U.S., comming in at roughly 854,000. Comparing the PS3 with it's highly sucessful predecessors, it outsold both PSone and the PS2 durring the same time frame.

i think the price of the system is probably turning most potential buyers away.
there is no way in hell i'd buy a system that is almost $700, not including buying $60 games.

not that i mind debating long into the night on this topic, i think that it's best to agree that it really is just too early in the systems life to tell wether it's a flop or not. sure some will say that it was screwed the moment it came out and others will say that it has a chance. a large part of the outcome will be the games; if sony can put out a few great killer apps, then the system will be set. even the naysayers have to admit the spiffy of killzone 2 or something equally as psychedelic (if the in-game play had the same graphics as what it was supposed to in the pre-rendered E3 demos that is

I'm with you that it's not a flop, but it's no success. They may have sold more, but these consoles are ridiculously expensive to produce, even with bulk discounts and crap. Sony won't be making any money on the console for a long, long time, and to really gain market share, they need a big price cut. Most gamers (who really buy these things for the games) don't want to spend $600 just because it can play $30 discs in HD. I just love how Nintendo sitting, reaping profits from every Wii and every Wii game sold.

woot finaly somebody that dosent hate the PS3.

however, i do agree that this system is far from being called a success. hopefuly the slew of games due out around christmas 07 will pull it back and a new controller design wouldnt hurt.
as for the Wii, if nintendo dosent get it together and do something about all the worthless PS2 and Xbox ports, then the system will die. dont get me wrong, i love the Wii just as much as the next, but in about 2 years you wont be able to swing the wiimote without hitting at least 20 of 'em.

Exactly. None of this technology is fucking mindblowing or anything, they just put it in the same box and spent a shitload of time and money doing it. They've made a game system at an elitist price with more shit than an elitist cares about. It's just horrible planning.
And the guy talking about the PS3 outselling PSone and PS2. Of course it has, because the gaming world has gotten much, much bigger since either of those two was released. Misused statistics are the pits.

I have a PS3 and it's amazing. The controllers are light and they fit well in my hand. The graphics on all the games I've played are unbelievable and I don't even have HDTV. It gets pretty hot but I've never seen it overheat.
The only downsides I can see are the price and no vibration in the controller. The latter isn't a major thing, but I miss it anyway. I think the biggest reason the PS3 isn't doing so well is just the price. It wasn't too big a deal for me but I'm sure it turns some people away when they can get a Wii for like $200.
Compared to the other systems in its generation (I've played all 3 extensively) I'd say the PS3 wins and is worth the extra cash. The Wii is with its remote is innovative and amusing but the excitement soon wore off. And the Xbox 360 just hasn't changed enough since the first one although it does have some nice exclusive games. The PS3 is the way game systems will go. It may be too pricey now, but in future generations the Wii will be all but forgotten.

No, the 360 hasn't changed enough. How has it really changed at all? Bigger memory, HDTV compatible, new color and style. What does any of that matter? It stayed even with current technology by being HDTV compatible, but it didn't go any further. Probably the only reason it didn't was because it came out first in its generation, so Microsoft didn't know that Sony and Nintendo would update to motion sensors and stuff.
I never said there was a "gigantic revolutionary change". There were lots of smaller, but still important changes. Just like the 360, the PS3 managed keep up (and in some ways catch up) with its generation. It got a hard drive and some sort of online gaming though I've never used it. And while Blu-Ray technology may not mean much to us now in the future it will probably take the place of DVD's. A Blu-Ray player costs at least twice as much as a PS3. Motion sensing controls, its a step forward, but honestly I don't like it very much.

OKay the ps3 owns it always will.
-the wii is fun i have but no good game probably coming out till next year(because theyll start making online games) i still have a blast with it.
- the xbox360 is good dont get me wrong it has some very good exclusive games(halo, lost plante, and probably alot more)
but it is still in the past. it still uses dvds for its games, but they use a different compact system for the game files; i.e. longer game loading times. and no way to every expand and start making better games.
another thing people overlook is the price you may think that $399 is a good price but after you add the hddvd drive($199)($399+$199=598+tax=about $640)
ohh you could also add the wireless adapter ($99)
and if you want a new 120gb hard drive(assuming you dont already have a xbox360 elite which IS a FLOP) thats $179
and a xbox live gold account another $50
so lets see lets add all that up $399+$199=$598+$99=$697+$179=$876+$50=$926 (now if thats not alot of money idk what is)
- now lets look at the ps3
system which includes wireless, a bigger hard drive, free online playing, and includes blu-ray(which is majorly outselling the hddvd)($599)
thats $400 cheaper
okay lets say i get a new controller and maybe a game ohh and maybe a blue tooth headset(ohh yeah PS3 has Blue tooth) lets add it up $49(for controller)+$60(for a game)+and about $50(for a blue tooth headset)= (so thats)$160+(system)$599=$760(still $140 cheaper i think)
so by far the PS3 is the better console and with the blu-ray it has room to grow and get EVEN BETTER! SO GO WITH THE PS3 ITS THE BEST

360 has a hard drive as well as a much better online gaming. Also Blu-Ray, may not replace DVDs, HDDVD is also a possibility.
